Shuri, on the hills above Naha, was the capital of the Ryukyu Kingdom for about 450 years. Its heart is Shuri Castle (Shurijo) — and after the 2019 fire, the fully restored Seiden (Main Hall) opens to the public on November 23, 2026 (124 days to go).

Beyond the castle
Shuri is more than the castle: the World Heritage royal mausoleum Tamaudun, the stone-paved Kinjocho Ishidatami road, the pond Ryutan, centuries-old awamori distilleries, and Okinawa soba shops are all within walking distance.
